ABOUT PATTI MARTIN
Patti Martin is a warm, encouraging and upbeat teacher who inspires confidence in her students to explore their potential. Patti is inclusive and respects differences in students; she patiently nurtures the physical and mental evolution that comes with the practice of yoga.
Through Patti’s own practice she has explored where restrictions occur in her body that create pain and imbalance, and has learned how to develop the awareness, strength and flexibility to open these areas to greater ease and comfort. She shares this knowledge with her students.
Patti is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher at the Intermediate Junior I level. Patti is also a Certified Yoga Therapist, certified by the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). In addition Patti is certified to teach Yoga for Osteoporosis by Loren Fishman M.D.
Patti regularly studies with top Iyengar teachers in the Bay Area, and frequently attends Iyengar workshops with senior Iyengar teachers visiting the Bay Area from around the world. Patti currently serves on the board of directors for the Iyengar Yoga Association of Northern California and previously served on the board of directors for the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States.
ABOUT IYENGAR YOGA
Students of Iyengar Yoga begin with elementary postures, with an emphasis on the standing asanas (postures). In time, other postures are added, including forward bends and back bends, twists, inversions and restorative poses. Salamba Sarvangasana (Shoulder Balance) is introduced as soon as students are ready because of its many therapeutic benefits. Each class ends with Savasana, corpse pose or deep relaxation. Students learn to rest in a profound way, completely releasing the body while drawing the mind towards the peace within.
